Automotive weatherstripping, seemingly insignificant components, plays a crucial role in daily driving, most commonly seen in door and window seals. What are the classifications of automotive weatherstripping?

1. Classification by installation location (component): Hood seals can be further divided into front, side, and rear; door frame seals; front and rear windshield seals; side window seals; sunroof seals; door front seals; window guide seals; inner and outer side strips (waterproofing strips); trunk seals; noise reduction seals; dustproof strips, etc.

2. Classification by cross-sectional shape: Sealing strips can be classified as solid products (round, square, and flat cross-sections), hollow products, and metal-rubber composite products. Metal-rubber composite seals account for over 60%. The cross-sectional design of rubber seals is extremely important. First, the shape and size of the sealing lip must be designed, ensuring that both sides of the sealing lip contact the glass with equal and appropriate force from both sides of the window. The length and thickness of the lip must also be suitable. Excessive thickness and length of the glass will cause excessive resistance during glass lifting, while insufficient thickness and length will result in poor guidance and sealing, leading to vibration, noise, and leakage. Secondly, the shape and dimensions of the bottom section are designed. The steel channel portion of the car window has a protrusion for mounting the guide channel. Therefore, a corresponding structure should be designed at the bottom of the guide channel section to facilitate installation and allow the sealing strip to adhere to the steel guide channel using its own elasticity, preventing it from detaching. The shape and size of the outer ring are also important; to improve the appearance, the outer surface of the guide channel should fit tightly against the car body.

3. Classification by sealing characteristics of automotive sealing strips. They can be divided into weather-resistant sealing strips and general-purpose sealing strips. Weather-resistant sealing strips have hollow sponge tubes, providing good heat and moisture insulation. Commonly used weather-resistant sealing strips include door frame sealing strips, trunk sealing strips, and engine hood sealing strips. Common sealing strips include front and rear windshield sealing strips, corner window sealing strips, and inner and outer strips.

4. Classification by rubber composite structure. Automotive sealing strips can be categorized as follows:
1. Pure rubber sealing strips – composed of a single type of rubber;
2. Two-component composite sealing strips – composed of a dense rubber compound and foamed sponge, often containing an axial metal skeleton within the dense rubber compound;
3. Composite sealing strips – composed of two types of dense rubber (one of which is lightweight) and sponge, typically containing a metal skeleton and reinforcing fibers within the dense rubber compound. Four types of composite sealing strips, with cotton rubber (foam tube) covered by a thin rubber protective layer, further extend the service life of the seal.

5. Classification by material type: Rubber sealing strips; plastic sealing strips; thermoplastic elastomer sealing strips.

6. Classification by surface treatment: After additional treatment, some sealing strips can be classified as flocked sealing strips, coated sealing strips, and sealing strips with fabric trim.

7. Classification by special functions: Some sealing strips have electronic intelligent functions, such as anti-pinch sealing strips.
